By reducing our electricity bill, we will also be reducing the pollution on the planet. It is such a simple and easy thing to do, that you'll be surprised why you did not do it in the first place, as it is so easy to reduce your electricity bill. Try these activities:

  1. Replace incandescent bulb with compact fluorescent bulb (CFS bulb)

Compact fluorescent bulb uses 4 time less energy compared to a typical 75 watt incandescent bulb without reducing the amount of visible light. The average life span for CFS bulb will range from 6000 hours to 15,000 hours which is 8 to 16 times better than incandescent bulb.
  2. Efficient electric appliance
New innovations has allowed newer and more efficient electrical appliances to be available in the market. These appliances range from electric kettles to irons to television sets and microwave ovens. Some of these products actually use 2 to 10 times less electricity as current conventional appliances. They even have a greater life span and are more efficient. So switch to newer products which are more efficient!
  3. Change CRT TV with LCD TV
CRT TV sets consume 2 to 4 times more electricity as compared to LCD TVs. Furthermore, LCD TVs offer better space saving features due to their more compact, slimmer and elegant design. Plus, their price are getting cheaper now.
  4. Use notebook instead desktop
Desktops consume about 5 times more electricity as compared to Notebooks. If changing notebooks is not a financial option and you currently own a Desktop which is using a CRT monitor, than consider changing to an LCD monitor. Also, ensure that Power Management is enabled (NOTE: Screen Saver does not save your electricity, it only saves your screen)

  5. Fridge temperature
Get optimum temperature for your fridge, the preferred temperature is somewhere between 35 and 38 degree F (1.7 to 3.3 degree C). It's good for your food and health.
  6. Turn of light
Always turn off the lights when you are not in the room, leaving the lights on with no one there wastes money as well as electricity.
  7. Water heater temperature
Set your hot water heater on a lower temperature and you will realize that you can get by on lower temperature power.
  8. Cut off standby losses
Most of today's electrical appliances consume electricity even when turned off. VCR, DVD player, amplifier and HiFi consume on average about 40-120kWh per year which is doing nothing useful. The best solution to overcome this issue is to buy the appliance that have very low standby energy consumption .
